Our first Jawbreaker cover set practice
First Jawbreaker cover set practice.

It's been more than two decades since I last stepped on a stage with a guitar in my hands. Life happened, time passed, and somehow it's 2025. I'm pretty excited to announce that the streak ends this year.

I'll be playing lead (heavy scare quotes on "lead") guitar and doing harmonies as part of a one-off Jawbreaker cover set made up of friends and familiar faces from Rockford's music scene. The band includes Brandon and Stewart from Joie De Vivre and Jack from Burgess Shale. We're taking over Mary's Place on Saturday, October 25th, along with Clementine, who will be covering Weezer, and the Anys, who will be covering the Descendents.

We're going to play around 10 songs from Jawbreaker's catalog — some hits, some deep cuts — all stuff that means something to us, or is at least fun to play.

Stewart posted a look at our first practice from a few months ago over on Reddit.

Honestly? I'm nervous. It's been a long time. But I'm also thrilled. Practicing with these guys has been a blast. The energy is there, the songs are really good, and there's something really crazy about how normal it feels to play guitar as part of a band.

If you're anywhere near Rockford that weekend, come hang out. Wear a costume, yell along, spill a drink — it'll be a good time.

See you at Mary's.
