On a Friday afternoon, I received an email from author and podcaster Jonah Keri asking if I had time to work on artwork for his upcoming podcast relaunch. The prospect of real, American dollars was discussed — but the artwork had to be turned in by the end of the weekend.
I dropped everything and accepted, of course.
The new Jonah Keri Podcast was going to live at Nerdist under a newly formed sports vertical that Jonah was heading up. There were only a few restrictions: I needed to stick to some provided sketches, and I needed to included asterisks as emphasized in other Nerdist family logos.
Jonah was a gracious and patient client.
I sent him dozens and dozens of emails over the weekend filled with all sorts of wonky ideas. In the end, we both felt simple was the best approach. I went with a minimal color scheme — emphasizing red and white for Jonah’s Canadian roots — and ran his asterisks vertically instead of horizontally to provide more space for the other art elements.
